Build ID: 20130530031141

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create fresh profile.
2. Go to todays google.com , with the Petri dish animation.
3. Click to play the animation.

Actual results:

A green overlay sqaure appears on the animation.

Expected results:

NO such thing.
Or, alternately, HWA be disabled for such cases on G41 express chipset ?

Try updating to the latest Intel 8.15.10.2869 drivers for the G4x series chipsets. Your current driver 8.15.10.2302 is quite old.
Updated the driver. Can still reproduce.
Summary:

I can confirm this bug. We should either fix Azure's Direct2D mode to work around possible GPU bugs, or blacklist only Azure Direct2D on certain cards (and NOT Direct2D altogether nor Azure altogether.)

Full response:

I also have a G41, and I can reproduce. I also see problems with the chrome, with glitching on the back arrow hover animations. Occasionally there will be texture errors with DirectWrite fonts, with text from above showing up in the wrong place.

I have tracked down the problem to using Azure in Direct2D mode. Direct2D alone works fine, as does Azure in Cairo mode (Skia does not support DirectWrite--see bug 856394). So my workaround is to set certain about:config entries as follows:

gfx.content.azure.enabled: false
gfx.canvas.azure.backends: cairo,direct2d,skia

The relevant resulting about:support info is as follows

Direct2D Enabled: true
DirectWrite Enabled: true (6.2.9200.16433)
Driver Version: 8.15.10.2869 [the most recent]
GPU Accelerated Windows: 1/1 Direct3D 10 [2/2 without this workaround]
AzureCanvasBackend: cairo
AzureContentBackend: none
AzureFallbackCanvasBackend: direct2d

I note that this problem is not exclusive to this GPU manufacturer or chipset: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/960789 lists it as a problem for the Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE as well, again, even with the most recent driver. So this isn't an isolated case. Hence I suggest we try to figure out what the problem is, before we decide whether or not to to go the blacklist route.

I do wonder if it might be related to bug 812695, as similar things happen on that bug.
I am able to reproduce on my system, as well.

Possibly related to a bug I opened; 908386?
Also, although my driver is old (2009), it IS the latest available.
Also, sorry, forgot to include:

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20130814063812

Dell Inspiron 1525, Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 @ 2.10 GHz, 3.0 GB RAM, Windows 7 SP1 32-bit.
This is the same issue as 908386. I'll track fixing it there.
