When I start Mozilla afresh, go to a simple page, say, google.com and then TYPE
IN the above URL and hit enter, nothing happens

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.start mozilla
2.go to http://www.google.com
3.Type the following URL and hit enter:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/api/index.html

Unless you are talking about typing the url in the google search box and not the
url box (which I dont think you are, as that would be silly) This is probably a
duplicate of Bug 83489, which was fixed this morning.

Verified. This is indeed a duplicate of bug 83489 --URL bar becomes inactive
sometimes
