spun off from bug 55792 and after conversing with kathy. not a problem on win32 or mac, which use ctrl+left/right arrow and opt+left/right arrow to jump a word at a time, respectively. ctrl+left/right arrow don't seem to jump a word at a time on my linux box. currently using 2001.06.27.04-branch comm bits. machine is running rh6.2 w/gnome and the sawmill wm [fwiw]. to repro: 1. go to any of the following: * an editor window * a textarea or textfield in a web form [eg, a bugzilla report form] * a mail compose window 2. enter some text, eg, "this is a test la dee dah". 3. place cursor in the middle, end or even beginning of that line of text. 4. attempt to either * move the cursor forwards a word at a time using ctrl+right arrow, or, * move the cursor backwards a word at a time using ctrl+left arrow result: cursor doesn't move.
anyone else using linux see this? could it be that my wm is somehow munching this keybinding?

It looks like it probably is your wm eating the key events. I'm using kde and ctrl-left and right both move by words when within text controls or an editor window.
yep indeedy. will fiddle with my wm settings now... :)
