STR: 1. Start listening to some (preferably long) track in the music player. (Say, a podcast or a lecture. 2. Reboot your phone. [e.g., suppose you just got an update offer, and the phone needs a reboot] Or, simpler: just quit the music app by holding Home and tapping the "x" 3. Reopen the music app. ACTUAL RESULTS: The app doesn't have any recognition of where I left off. EXPECTED RESULTS: The app should save my position, and there should be some way to get back to where I left off, perhaps via the upper-right "circled play" button that sometimes appears in the music app (e.g. when you pause and return to the grid music view.) I'm not sure whether this behavior was in the spec for the music app, but: a) it's how I'd intuitively expect it to behave. b) it's enough to discourage me from installing updates sometimes (because getting back to the same point in an >hour-long track is really tricky with the teeny-tiny scrubber, and that's what I'll have to do to resume my podcast if I allow the update to install) c) whimboo agrees and encouraged me to file this bug

Summary: [music] Music app doesn't save position across quit or phone-reboots (making me hesitant to allow updates) → [music] Music app doesn't save position across quit or phone-reboots (making me hesitant to install updates sometimes, since seeking in long tracks is a pain)
(In reply to Daniel Holbert [:dholbert] from comment #0) > ACTUAL RESULTS: The app doesn't have any recognition of where I left off. Sorry, that wasn't very clear. What I meant was ACTUAL RESULTS: The music app opens and presents me with its main "grid view", with no saved state from my last session, as far as I can tell.
Confirmed, but I'm seeing this after just unplugging my headphones or speakers before answering a phone call, much less a reboot - I haven't noticed Gaia::Music ever retaining the last-played position unless it's open on a pause screen when the phone's locked. Cycling back to Gaia::Music after leaving it while paused (whether to answer a call or enter any other app) sends me back to its start screen every time. Haven't ever seen Gaia::Music in the list of open apps unless playing in the background. As stated by OP, this dramatically impacts usability with lengthy spoken word content. (Audiobooks, podcasts, etc.) [ZTE hardware, stuck on early 1.0.1.0 fw]
