I don't see any shadow in that screenshot. But it certainly looks odd overall.

What's the desired end-state here? Blue background behind the grid like on OS X?
I think the comment was in reference to the inner shadow on the palette area and how it has a light inner shadow at the bottom. I'm pretty sure this comment was Zhenshuo's, so flagging her for needinfo.
