When I download files Firefox seems to be taking far more cpu power than it used to before the download button was introduced.
I wonder if related to bug 848792, that reduced the usage, though it will still be a bit higher... Unfortunately I'm not sure whether there's a way to disable that and verify if it's indeed the culprit... Well you could probably try removing the downloads button from the toolbar and see if it makes any change at all to the cpu usage.
Removing the downloads button from the toolbar resolves the problem. I'll dupe this forward to bug 902733 because more people are watching that bug for some reason.
