In the latest UX nightly:

1) Go to customization mode
2) Drag the bookmarks toolbar items into the menupanel.
3) Exit customization mode
4) Repeat (1)
5) Drag the bookmarks toolbar items out of the menupanel to any toolbar.
6) repeat (3)
7) Any folder in the bookmarks toolbar will now not open.

When bug 895938 is fixed, you will not see this happening anymore.
