User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20130326150557
Steps to reproduce:
Open a new tab, type a URL, press enter, then immediately click stop. Best results to duplicate this bug would be on a website that is somewhat sluggish to respond. This bug is probably indirectly related to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=610357
Actual results:
The URL/address bar is wiped blank.
Expected results:
The URL should have stayed on the address bar. (The only browser I know of that has the correct behavior for this issue is Opera Presto.)

No, this is in fact a Firefox issue; the Firefox UI is what maintains the state of the URL bar.

Probably a consequence of the fix for bug 724599 (see also bug 798249). Not sure we can easily fix this without reverting that fix.

I hope this can be fixed though, or at least testing can be done, as it's a fairly big issue for me.

Gavin, do you think it is 100% impossible to fix this or it's worth to spend time trying to find a fix? This is really a horrible behavior of the address bar...

Certainly not impossible, and certainly worth time trying to fix. I haven't found the time personally; it hasn't risen to the top of the priority list.

Not suitable for the backlog given comment 8.
(Similar symptoms on Nightly are e10s-related, and not this bug.)

(I haven't personally tested that it happens in Nightly or on other platforms, but it seems very unlikely to have gone away on its own)

I also experience many problems with disappearing URL with the new Firefox version.
It happens in some cases:
1. Cut the URL (control+x), and then clicking undo (control+z). The address that appears is not the correct one - instead of the old value, I get the content of the clipboard.
2. In some websites (such as vk.com), when you open a DIV (video), and then close it. The URL disappears.
3. Sometimes when moving to another tab (make another tab active), and going back to the old tab, the URL disappears.

This doesn't just affect the address bar, but the reload button also gets greyed out. If the tab has history you can navigate back and thereafter move forward to the initial page. If the tab has no history the tab content is lost.

The severity field for this bug is relatively low, S3. However, the bug has 3 duplicates.
:mossop, could you consider increasing the bug severity?

The last needinfo from me was triggered in error by recent activity on the bug. I'm clearing the needinfo since this is a very old bug and I don't know if it's still relevant.
