(Whiteboard: [type:feature])

We should come up with a way - preferably in Google Analytics - to track the traffic on our Sphinx/ReadTheDocs content, even if it's not served by MDN.

Might be a silly question, but couldn't we just build the GA tracking code into our RTD theme?
Sounds like a good approach. :)

We're deprecating the MDN Sphinx Theme (bug 1361729)

Google Analytics tracking is a feature of the Alabaster theme [1].

ReadTheDocs allows entering an Analytics code in the admin (Advanced Settings) when using the default theme.

Peter, do we need to setup another GA property to track kuma.readthedocs.io, or should we re-use an MDN account?

Hi John,

It really depends what you want. Do you consider this content to be part of MDN or a different site?

If you consider it to be a different site, you should use a new tracking code.

Please let me know if you would like one.

Thanks,

PG

Thanks for the clarification, PG. This will help when we launch future web sites.

After some discussion, I think we're going to not track the developer documentation. It is difficult to imagine any change to priorities or processes based on analytics of the developer documentation visitors.
