Since I did the code for bug 717062, maybe I should be the one to document it?

Unless there is someone else more appropriate or someone wants to take this, feel free to assign the bug to me.

Note from triage:
Gozala says that this might fit in better in the xul migration guide since we don't really want people to use this unless it's needed for maintaining compatibility with traditional-style addons.

not really..

this bug is waiting for (depends on) bug 717062 to land, which in turn depends on bug 907343, which doesn't look like it will be resolved any time soon..

i guess it's stuck in bugzilla limbo..
