I have the bookmarks sidebar open, I opened a bookmark, changed the url slightly, made a new bookmark of that page, then tried to close the Sidebar by pressing the 'X'. I get this error message and the sidebar will not close:
[11:37:30.541] Empty string passed to getElementById(). @ chrome://browser/content/browser.js:13168
[11:37:30.541] TypeError: sidebarBroadcaster is null @ chrome://browser/content/browser.js:13173
When I go to View -> Sidebars I see that the Bookmarks sidebar is checked.
I now used the menu item to close the sidebar and that worked. So there must be some difference in how the menuitem works and how the 'X' button works, such that the latter fails.

Realistically we won't be able to work out what was broken here at this point.
