In discussions with the folks on the ESR, one of the bigger problems is that there is no way to properly manage Firefox. In particular, any modifications made to Firefox have to be placed in the Firefox directory, especially on Mac. It would be nice if extensions associated with managing the system could be placed in a central location and then Firefox would simply pick them up. For this to work, the ESR would have to allow addons from other locations. This is properly controversial, but I'd like to start the discussion. Until Firefox provides some built in management, this could be a stop gap measure.
