Still occurring as of Nightly 2015-01-23.
This is still happening in v39.0 - July 2015. As this is a privacy issue, can priority be given to fix it to obey the "Don't load tabs until selected" setting.
Disagree that this is a wanted change. I do want all the favicons to appear, regardless of whether tabs are loaded or unloaded. By all means make this an optional change, but favicons need to be shown by default. Perhaps some people need to slow down on browsing porn sites and expect Firefox to cater to 'privacy' needs.
