Text in form fields is no longer being remembered after the latest Firefox update

(Keywords: dataloss, regression)
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20130814063812
Steps to reproduce:
When clicking on a form field on a page, the remembered text appears twice in the pulldown list when it should only be listed once. So, while mousing over one of the two identical lines in the pulldown menu, I hit the Delete key to remove the duplicate entry.
Actual results:
On subsequent visits to the same page, the form field now doesn't have any stored text information for that field nor does it store any newly entered text into the field.
Expected results:
I expected that when I deleted the duplicate pulldown entry, it deletes the form data so that I have to manually enter it in the next time I visit the page. However, after doing that, the text in the field is not saved and there is no pulldown menu when I click on the field when I revisit the page.
Summary: Text in form fields are no longer being remembered after the latest Firefox update → Text in form fields is no longer being remembered after the latest Firefox update

Unclear why Fx 23 will be unaffected if this is a regression from 566746 ?
Also I am needinfoing :markh here and in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=896142 which are blocked by asyncFormHistory to understand if this is a website issue or something on our side and next step's here ?

I suspect this is another manifestation of bug 896142

OK, I am going to track it given this is a recent regression and a dataloss scenario and hope the upcoming patch in 896142 fixes this.

Reporter, could you test Nightly to confirm it's fixed by bug 896142, please.
http://nightly.mozilla.org/
This bug is probably a dupe.
Flags: needinfo?(cmvc95)
I just tested with Firefox Nightly 26.0a1 (2013-09-05) and the bug is not fixed. Some field pulldown menus still show items twice, and form data is still not being remembered on subsequent visits to the same page.
Flags: needinfo?(cmvc95)
Did you test with a clean profile? If not, try, please.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
If yes, provide URL or a testcase. We can't debug without link or example to test.

I didn't test with a brand new profile before, but I just tried again with one, and it appears to work correctly. Does this mean that I will need to create a brand new default profile and reinstall all my old Add-ons and copy over all my old bookmarks in order to have form data get remembered correctly again?

No, you just need to delete the entries of this form stored by Firefox in your profile.
Manually or with an add-on like Form History Control (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/form-history-control/).

Thanks for the link to the Form History Control add-on. Very useful. That did the trick and Firefox is now back to correctly remembering form data.

Marking this resvoled works for me as https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=896142 landed a patch the fixes this bug. Please reopen if this is still not resolved and may need further action.
