Dell laptops have a Synaptics touchpad. One feature of this touchpad is to
scroll the display if the user runs his or her finger along the right or bottom
edges.
Scrolling using this method work in the browser, but doesn't work in any of the
Mozilla mail/news panes. Strangely, it *does* work in the Mail/News tool of
Netscape 6.1.
Scrolling also works if I use my Intellimouse, which uses a different driver.
Apparently, the intellimouse driver scrolls whichever pane is active, whereas
the Synaptics driver scrolls the pane the cursor is over.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Buy a Synaptics touchpad. :)
2. Make sure you have "Virtual Scrolling of Active Window" enabled in the driver
2. Open up Mail/News with a scrollable message or message list
3. Put the cursor over the scrollable list, and try to scroll it using the
touchpad
Actual Results: No scrolling
Expected Results: Scrolling

Bug 56892 is specific to the touch pad, and it offers a fix for this (and the
reason why does it work in NS 6).

Alfonso: thanks for the xref. Believe it or not, I *did* search for a duplicate
before I posted the bug. :(
