"It seems that the new GMail compose interface overrides Firefox’s Ctrl-Shift-X shortcut, which switches the writing direction. It also overrides the right-click->Switch writing direction function; it simply doesn’t do anything." http://aharoni.wordpress.com/2013/08/28/broken-right-to-left-writing-in-the-new-gmail-compose-interface/

Reopen if you have more information.

Still totally relevant. 1. Go to Gmail with user interface in Hebrew. 2. Start composing a new email. 3. Clicking the down-arrow at the left end of the bottom composing toolbar. 4. Select "Plain text mode" (מצב טקסט פשוט). 5. Press Ctrl-Shift-X Observed: 1. The email's direction is still RTL. 2. The elements at the top of the screen are swapped! I'm talking about the Gmail logo and the search box. This totally isn't supposed to happen. Expected: 1. The email's direction is supposed to switch. 2. No other elements are supposed to move.

Moreover, about the same can be observed with Walla! mail editor (https://friends.walla.co.il/#/login). Ctrl+Shift+X doesn't work at all, the workaround is to manually right click the textbox and select Switch text direction (or to select the appropriate button from the composing toolbar). Contrary to Gmail, no elements are swapped here. If needed, I can create a test account in that mail for you to test.

Sergiu, can you try to set your UI to Hebrew and reproduce in the new-new Gmail (2018)? Thanks.

(In reply to Mike Taylor [:miketaylr] (62 Regression Engineering Owner) from comment #10) > Sergiu, can you try to set your UI to Hebrew and reproduce in the new-new > Gmail (2018)? Thanks. I'm still able to reproduce it on the new Gmail layout.

I have downloaded a Hebrew version of Nightly 63. and tested on Mac OS 10.13.5 Looks like the default writing direction in the Compose window is LTR. Also, Control+Shift+X does not work.

(In reply to Sergiu Logigan [:sergiu] from comment #12) > Looks like the default writing direction in the Compose window is LTR. That's because you're on LTR version of Gmail. On RTL Gmail the default writing direction is RTL.

Thanks Itiel... so still an issue, 1.5 years after contacting Google. :/ Karl, not sure if we think pinging google again will be effective.

Current behavior, after performing the STR from https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=910490#c3:
- the writing is still LTR when using Hebrew onscreen keyboard
- the elements at the top of the screen are swapped
https://prnt.sc/M4MphE-HBEDJ
Thus this is partially fixed.
Tested with:
Browser / Version: Firefox Nightly 104.0a1 (2022-06-29)

When I file a bug I have already tested against a clean profile. I've been contributing to Firefox/Mozilla for nearly 20 years. If we can't reproduce this lets just mark it works for me.
