This is in regard to this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/dashboard/metrics The topics graph is kind of sad because the controls to toggle on and off topics lists every topic ever, even if they don't have any data in the chart. This makes things hard to use and view. We should rewrite this graph and make it a lot better. The data for this isn't helpfully organized, so I think this would be 2 points.
As a contributor looking at the chart I wish to modify which of the ca 40 "topics" are displayed. Possibly I am interested in only two or three. I consider a useful enhancement would be able to toggle {display all |display none }
See also thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/709616?last=54228#post-54228 As a contributor I am interested in the fact that a certain "topic" or group of topics is increasing,spiking,or otherwise changing as demonstrated by the graph. To find out more I need to look at the relevant questions. For instance a spike after a Release may indicate some breaking issue in a new Release of Firefox. Some other spike may indicate a popular extension or OS update is causing an issue. I need to be able to identify and search for the specific questions shown in each part of the bar stack. What is the attribute used to assign questions to topics. Is this a specific tag ? If so the tag or whatever should be displayed as a key, legend, label or whatever so that I may easily investigate this.
As a contributor or anyone else looking at the chart we should not see empty results that never have any chance of being filled. If some topic is based on a hypothetical or inappropriate category as for instance a topic appropriate to the KB articles but something that will not be tagged or automatically assigned as a topic in a real question then it is not needed. All it does is waste space, and maybe even mislead someone into thinking that an empty topic shows that particular issue is not in the AAQ forum; when it clearly is; it is just not displayed in the graph results other than as a checkbox option.
This was initially requested by the User Advocacy team. I'm waiting for their feedback on how they are utilizing this page, so we can improve it. Thanks for the input, John.
