Figure out why Graphite complains in console.log about certain metrics repeatedly: 01/10/2013 20:20:54 :: Error writing to /var/lib/carbon/whisper/hosts/toolsdev1_dmz_scl3_mozilla_com/cpu/0/cpu/softirq/value.wsp whisper-info and whisper-fetch have no complaints about that same file but carbon-cache repeatedly complains about not being able to update it. There are other files like this.
There are scripts floating around to detect corrupt whisper files by running whisper-info against them, but that wasn't the issue here. These were more subtly flawed. I removed them and Graphite recreated them and there haven't been any errors about them since (this was last week).
