I can't see the image above. Only the url is displayed in the window. It's a 4000x400 (approximately) image so maybe it triggers some bug for big images. Mozilla on NT4 build id: 2001071408
No problem with 2001072521 linux
confirming with win2k build 20010725.. I load that file local I get: JPEG decoding error: Image too wide for this implementation WARNING: Never finished decoding the JPEG., file D:\moz_source\normal\mozilla\mo dules\libpr0n\decoders\jpeg\nsJPEGDecoder.cpp, line 177 If I try to load the image from that URL I get (works with wget): Error loading URL http://www.lysator.liu.se/~padrone/bilder/ostersund-2001-05-08 /ostersund-360.jpg : 804b0002 And if I hit reload I get the Jpeg decoder message again...
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
The URL is no longer valid so if someone has a 4000x400 pixel JPEG image to contribute, feel free to add a new URL.
I don't know who directly works on libjpeg problems. I'll hold on to this until I can find a better owner.

Attached image 4000x400 pixel JPEG —
A 4000x400 pixel .jpg as requested in comment #5 WFM with 2002070204 on Win2k. So (of course) no problem with regular 4000 pixel wide images. The ostersund image URL seems to be valid again. From that I get a "The image ... cannot be displayed, because it contains errors." printed in the html display area. IE5 and IrfanView do display it correctly, Netscape 4.7 does not (shows a "broken image" icon).
Attachment #90224 - Attachment description: 4000x4000 pixel JPEG → 4000x400 pixel JPEG
With Linux build 2002052309 (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.0rc3) Gecko/20020523) both the testcase and the ostersund picture seem to display just fine. This seems fixed, or maybe it is Windows-specific?
The test case loads fine in my Windows 2000 Mozilla, but not the ostersund picture. It loads and the title bar as well as page info says that it is 4815x470 pixels but nothing is displayed. It's all white. I do get a scrollbar though.
The same still for me with 2002091108 on Win2k. But if you right-click and choose to save it, the downloaded file can be displayed by other programs. So there is probably something wrong with the image that mozilla doesn't tolerate, but other programs do. Somebody familiar with jpegs? ...
I just ran into this problem on my own page with moz1.1 - while trying to load a panorama picture (5804x600). It seems, that the problem only occurs, if I use progressive encoding for the JPEG. When using standar encoding it works fine. The two attachement are from the same original image - the first one with Jasc Paintshop Pro 7.04 standard jpeq encoding, the second with progressive encoding. IE6, Opera6 and other image-viewers show both images. Mozilla only has problem to show very large progressive-encoded Jpegs. E.g I rezised the same picture to 1935x200 and it worked again.
Here are the test images. The progressive encoded one doesn't load. I resized the Panorama (of Budapest) to 4500x465 because of the 300KB attachment limit. While my first try with 4000x413 didn't show the bug (progressive image loaded) this image exceeds some border an doesn't load.
I am marking this a dup of 9922 If you load the ostersund bug in a debug build the debug message "Image too wide for this implementation"... which is what the other bug is for. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 9922 ***
