Make a filter that moves messages into the Trash folder. Send a message to yourself that complies to the above filter's criterion. Expected results: The messages being moved are still marked unread (displayed as bold in preview pane). In folder pane, Trash is displayed as bold and the number of unread messages it contains are also displayed Actual results: The messages being moved into Trash are not marked unread. In folder pane, Trash is displayed with bold characters but there's no indication for the # of unread messages. Additional notes: 100% reproducible bug and it wasn't there a few weeks ago (regression). Moving action to other folders is working as expected, only move to Trash is an issue. Saw it on 2001072703 (trunk), on pop3 account, alternative 3 pane view.
wfm on win2k builds 2001072208, 2001072703, 2001072808 I get expected results for both message views.
You may have magical powers :-) since I no longer can reproduce it. I was seeing it for a couple of weeks and now it's gone. Another glitch inside Mozilla that disappears without myself being able to give an explanation ? Q&A: please leave this bug open until the mail/news folder pane use the new outliner.
I attached a screenshot because the bug re-appeared in my machine yesterday, without installing a new build. Today I can't reproduce it, again. The funny think is that yesterday's reappearance of the bug was noted after filtering a message from a (very well known) troll in mozilla performance newsgroup. Sorry for spamming but I don't know what to do with this bug. Trying a new profile is out of the question for me, since I don't want to loose my inbox (I'm not using other email clients anymore). Maybe someone else could confirm.
Attaching another screenshot where the problem appears in all of it's weirdness: An oldest test message is kept unread while the newer (on the top of the list) has been (falsely) marked read. That's why folder pane indicates 1 unread message for Trash while it should show 2. Hoping I made things clear, this time.
Today I repeatedly reproduced it without using filter, on build 2001080508. While offline, I just mailed myself ("Send Later"). Then I went offline and responded "Yes" to the prompt for automatically sending unsent messages. Then waited a few seconds to assure message has been received on incoming POP server, then I pressed "Get Messages". Received message is marked read (and, again, it's icon has this green arrow attached) while "Inbox" is bold but without the appropriate unread number (just like the previous screenshot. Changing summary & component.
Component: Filters → Mail Window Front End
Summary: filter's "move to Trash" action marks messages as read → Sometimes received POP messages are automatically marked as read while Inbox remains bold and without unread message number
We already have a bug about sending later being sent as read status... see bug 17943 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 17943 ***

Somehow I think bug 17943 doesn't entirely cover my case. I 'll take a look at it, when 17943 is fixed.

Marking verified duplicate. If you come up with a reproducible case in current builds, and/or still see it after 17943 is fixed you can either reopen this or log a new report.
