Details

Currently the WebRTC getUserMedia prompt always appears on a site even if the user previously allowed access.

It would be nice to have it remember the permission state on a specific URL (like the geolocation permission) on subsequent visits since it can affect the user's overall experience.
Chrome will remember your preference to use the camera when running on an https site:

Maire, I added you to the CC: list in the hope that this bug gets some visibility.

We're working on an app that uses the webcam to capture images of the user's face when they send a message to their friends. In the interest of conserving battery we're not having the webcam ON all the time, but it so happens that we need to say OK to the prompt each time we send a new message. It gets very tedious and makes the app very unfriendly when running on Firefox :-(

Here's the app:

Hope we can at least spark some discussion on this topic! :)
This would be a boon for sites where the primary functionality relies on camera capture access. The https: requirement seems sane.
I'd also like to see this behaviour on mobile.
+1 on this. I'd far prefer to use firefox for everything but I have to put up with chrome at the moment because of this bug.
+1 my clicking finger gets tired.
Agreed, this would be great
On Webmaker profiles, we had a lot of difficulty explaining why and where to allow permissions for their camera. Having to do it every single time is an annoyance for developers/advanced users but it's particularly a huge stumbling block for our less advanced users... this would be an amazing fix.
Yeah, this would be useful; it's really annoying having to say "yes" to usage every time.
Would love to see this +1
+1 as well, there's a solid use case for not having to re-authorize this choice every. single. time. If it was then available as a whitelist option somewhere else, it would eliminate the need to re-ask.
