So we're no longer using NetUtil.asyncCopy for XPI extraction so bug 928340 isn't helpful there. As far as I can tell (you have better eyes than me here) the only main thread I/O that is left in XPI extraction is opening the zip file and reading the initial install.rdf. The latter is fairly easily solvable I think, the former would require an nsIZipReader fix to work.
