I noticed this some time around 2013-11-13 on Nightly on Fedora x86_64.  It's not specific to Google Calendar's hovers and doesn't happen with chrome tooltips AFAICT.

A regression range would probably be super useful here.

If / when you have time, can you use mozregression to bisect the exact Nightly this first showed up in?

Not sure when it started happening but I'm pretty sure ff 25 worked fine.

Hmm, don't know what to say but, after a browser restart it's not happening anymore :-/  I'll keep an eye on it.

I just saw this with Firefox 28.0b3 candidate with the profile I created today for the testday, but not with a new profile.  The problem disappeared with a restart.

It affected content tooltips (of title attributes and of PDF.js buttons), but not chrome tooltips (of tabs or toolbar buttons).

All tooltips had a background of the same size.  The font selected in Xfce is Open Sans 15.
