User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:25.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/25.0 SeaMonkey/2.22 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20131028182244

Steps to reproduce:

I have a file with xxx.doc filename from MS word. I attach it to the email. When attaching it, in the attachment window of the composed email it gets a correct msword icon. When I look to the same email into the sent folder, the attachment icon changes to sea monkey, the doc file contents is listed below the body of text as ASCII file.

Actual results:

The attachment icon changes to SM and the attachment could not be opened in word, it is opening in browser only as a ASCII chaotic text. It seems that the SM steals the doc filename to word and this could not be set. Similar problem I had before with jpg files, where it was not possible to use other application for viewing the jpgs that the stupid SM browser viewer, although irfanview icon was correctly associated as an opening application.

Expected results:

The word icon should stay as a sign of word attachment and the Word should be as a browser application. It is interesting, that in case of having file *.docx the icon stays correctly with word sign and when trying to open the attachment it correctly asks for opening application (as set in helper application) and gives the opportuninty to start the MS WORD.
It seems that I have found the reason. I have installed an ADD-ON which name was "Doc Viewer". This addon enabled to view diverse files inclusive doc. When I removed the addon, the icons for doc changed back from SM to Word. I think that it could be great to write somewhere, that the priority of addon (or maybe better description of helper window) above the helper application setting should be more clearly stated, displayed etc..

I was too fast. Just after removing the addon, it seems that all worked. After next restart, it behaves as on the beginning. I have attached the screenshot of helper application window for word associated applications. There is the strange SM icon, altough the MS Word is there. Even in case I ask for "Always Ask", the attachment is displayed in the ASCII again.

helper application window - strange SM icon to word 2003.
Can you attach an example mail to the bug here? Save the mail from the "Sent" folder with File->Save As->File and attach it to the bug.
The attached email is an example, but as far as it happens with all emails with doc attachment, not depending on its origin, which system it came from, I am convinced, that the problem is somewhere in the SM itself.
Another comment - I have tried to edit mimetypes.rdf and delete every section which contained reference to WORD. There were three entries, the same number as in the Helper Application Window.
So for example:
</RDF:Description>
  <RDF:Description RDF:about="urn:mimetype:application/msword"
                   NC:fileExtensions="doc"
                   NC:description="Dokument aplikace Microsoft Office Word 97- 2003"
                   NC:value="application/msword"
                   NC:editable="true">
    <NC:handlerProp RDF:resource="urn:mimetype:handler:application/msword"/>

After that "hard" operation I have no entry in the Helper application table concerning the Word, but the icon on the attachment is now correct. We will see if this will stay. I suppose that one of the entries was wrong or maybe double. I have stored the original mimetypes.rdf, so I can upload it on the request.
