comparison between OS X and Linux (Fedora) notifications
When compared with OS X, the notifications ("highlights"?) on Linux (at least GNOME 3 on Fedora with the stock theme) are not very noticeable. I'll attach a comparative screenshot.

Oh Linux GTK, you so special.
We might have to find a way of sampling the system theme colour in order to determine what kind of icons and glow to use...
