Don't know if this is just noise or not... since measurements are taken from stop watch. But, it's probably worth time to investigate... since the other measurement "Navigator -> Mail & Newsgroups" did not change much, and there is a large delta for "Open Preference Dialog". Were there any xul changes in pref dialog recently?? Quoting Randell Jessup's response to sairuh@netscape.com posting... news://news.mozilla.org/ybuwv4ffzs0.fsf%40jesup.eng.tvol.net.jesup.eng.tvol.net > From that page: > Linux Win98 Mac OS > 2001.08.02.06 trunk > Open Preferences Dialog 3.93 2.56 4.12 > Navigator -> Mail & Newsgroups 0.86 0.68 0.81 > > 2001.07.26.06 trunk > Open Preferences Dialog 3.2 1.89 3.30 > Navigator -> Mail & Newsgroups 0.90 0.75 0.80 > > In the last week or so (through 8/2/01), preferences opening has _slowed_ > by 20-35%(!!) Ben? any comments?

just to clarify --jen did the tests for the past 3 weeks. the big jump occurred only with the last set of data. i remember she had sent me email about noticing the diff: "These numbers were a higher than last week...I did an average of 5 [measurements] versus three, but results seemed fairly consistent."

could we get a measurement with a trunk build this week and see what the trend is?
yep, the data will be there [see URL] --assuming that the network is behaving and allows downloads *sigh*.
updated the page with this week's data. interesting [trunk]: dialog opening is better than last week's. perhaps last week's was a fluke...? also, i find it odd that panel switching is worse this week... hm, perhaps it might be in the difference btwn my dexterity and Jen's. *shrug* (although that might not account for the dialog opening measurements...} also #2: i added 6.1 RTM baseline measurements at the end of the page.

seth spitzer did quite a few checkins recently that have really given mozilla some perf, killed some mem-leaks too. -dman84

Does this bug need to be open anymore...?
it's too late to figure out this slow down. we don't even have a check-in log to begin with. Let's just close this bug and move on.
