Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:28.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/28.0 ID:20131122030202 CSet: dbf94e314cde In Adwaita, the default Gnome 3 theme, the background tabs text is not dimmed and the background color being the same as the foreground one, the purpose of having the active tab stand out is lost. Thunderbird which already has the Australis theme used dimmed text for background tabs which I think is a good solution. Attaching a screenshot.
Having the active tab stand out is a goal but not the only one. Your proposed design would make it harder to read and identify background tabs, which seems counter-productive. As this is not a regression, it doesn't block bug 939862.
No longer blocks: australis-merge
Severity: normal → enhancement
I think it is a regression because currently Firefox does have a colour differenciation between active and background tabs, while in Australis the only difference is that the active tab has a border while the others haven't.
(In reply to Pascal Chevrel:pascalc from comment #2) > I think it is a regression because currently Firefox does have a colour > differenciation between active and background tabs, while in Australis the > only difference is that the active tab has a border while the others haven't. Background tabs used -moz-menubartext like they do today. Or do you mean the background color? That seems like a more subtle difference compared to the tab shape for the selected tab vs. no tab shape for background tabs.
I mean the background color for Firefox. I don't care about the implementation actually (color, background color;, bolder text...), my concern is that when I switch to the Firefox Nightly window, it is less obvious now for me which tab is currently active in my tab strip vs the current version of Firefox or inother applications like Thunderbird or Gnome apps.
