From what I've heard so far, will-animate sounds like a great replacement for CSS hacks to improve visual performance.
These come up in the Dev Tools UI too, so it would be great to make use of this in chrome content.
A recent example of hacks this could replace showed up in bug 949561, and landed as part of https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/76105555b203 to speed up scrolling performance.
