No problems with 1.1, but since upgrading to 1.2 Gtalk does not accept my password, even though I confirmed that it was correct. Downgrading back to 1.1 resolved the issue.
I am not using a Gmail address for my user ID as I do not use Gmail, so I am wondering if this is related to the problem. I am not using any proxy either. All other protocols I am using work fine, including Facebook. Only Gtalk seems to be affected by this upgrade.

Do you mean you are using Google Talk for Google Apps?
Have you changed any settings in the advanced properties of the account in Instantbird?

I mean instead of using a Gmail user ID to login I use a normal email address. I have a Google+ account that accesses all of Google's apps, but don't use Gmail. Since this is not common for those with Google accounts I'm wondering if this might be related to the problem.
I have no changed any settings, tried deleting and re-addig my Gtalk account, but I still get an error message insisting that my password is wrong.

Not really, sorry. aleth tried to reproduce, but the result wasn't very convincing (he couldn't confirm that his account worked with 1.1).
You are talking about an account created with this form, right?
https://accounts.google.com/NewAccount?service=talk
How did you configure it in Instantbird 1.1?
(I just tried and I get a "Not Authorized" error even without using the new XMPP implementation that appeared in 1.2.)

When I was using Instantbird 1.1 I was still using Gmail, so I configured it as normally as I configured other IM services. I dropped Gmail since then and log in using a different email ID but still didn't have issues with 1.1 until I upgraded. I don't get a "not authorized" error though, its an error telling me my password is wrong even though it isn't. Those errors may be related though.
I'm still using 1.1 for now since it's the only thing that works.

So how do you configure it in Instantbird 1.1?
What did you use as the username? Anything special to have both the domain name of your email address and something from Google?
What's in the advanced properties of the account? Any connect server set? How are the SSL and port settings configured?

I did the account wizard for Gtalk, for the username I used my Apple email address (**@me.com), the email I used as a login after dropping Gmail.
For my advanced properties, I am using "direct connection to the Internet" with no proxy settings. SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 are both checked. OCSP certificate validation is enabled as well. I'm assuming these are all default settings as I haven't made any changes to them since installing InstantBird.

I was wondering today if the cause could be that we need to implement JID escaping (http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0106.html), but I tried to configure the account with \40 instead of the @ and it didn't work better.

Afaik there have been some XMPP fixes recently - does this still happen with a current nightly?
Component: Account manager → XMPP
OS: Windows XP → All
Product: Instantbird → Chat Core
Hardware: x86 → All
