Currently there is no way of telling what is the permissions or level of a user in irc rooms with a screenreader, as there are indicated by icons which are basicly images.

Please add  text elements in the user list, for example: (operator, channel founder, administrator...). In this way, ScreenReader users could find out the ranks of the users, in irc networks.

Attachment: arialabel.diff

This adds aria-labels to the participant listitems that include the information contained in the icon. As far as I know, this should override the visible label attribute for screenreaders.

Please let me know if this actually works in practice, and also whether these strings sound OK when read (e.g would "nick is a founder" be better?).

This patch (which was pushed to nightlys) works very well. I like that the tag is spoken after the user's  name. all is good.
