It would be great if there was a synchronization window (ala outlook express) when synchronizing accounts (mail and news). This status window should show both the individual task (login, download of mail 3 of 6) and all of the tasks to be completed. Idealy a progress bar would be shown too.

Summary: Status window for synchronization of mail → [RFE] Status window for synchronization of mail
I suppose this is an RFE, but moving back from displaying such messages on the Status Bar to displaying them on a modal dialog is not what I'd call progress; witness the infamous Sending Message... dialog. Really, I propose WONTFIX. I like these indications on the Status Bar. It can handle a progress bar, also, perfectly well.

As such I don't mind it being displayed in the status bar, however when having multiple accounts it would be impossible to show failures of these accounts. Furthermore if the synchronization was multithreaded it would be impossible to show the progress...

Marking NEW Mail/News can do whatever they want with it.

This window does not have to be modal. Best would be if the user could choose wether to have it always on the top or not (always on the top does not mean modal). This could also be a combination of status bar & info window as it's implemented in outlook. It shows very general information in the status bar (such as "Getting new mails..."; "ERROR: Could not get new mails."; "No new mails." <- these are no exact quotations because I don't own the english version). The status window you start with a double-click on the status bar shows which accounts are synchronized and what's going on right now. Pop-up error messages (Message Boxes) are more annoying than a non-modal info-dialog you can send to background.

This bug report is registered in the SeaMonkey product, but has been without a comment since the inception of the SeaMonkey project. This means that it was logged against the old Mozilla suite and we cannot determine that it's still valid for the current SeaMonkey suite. Because of this, we are setting it to an UNCONFIRMED state. If you can confirm that this report still applies to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it back to the NEW state along with a comment on how you reproduced it on what Build ID, or if it's an enhancement request, why it's still worth implementing and in what way. If you can confirm that the report doesn't apply to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it to the appropriate RESOLVED state (WORKSFORME, INVALID, WONTFIX, or similar). If no action happens within the next few months, we move this bug report to an EXPIRED state. Query tag for this change: mass-UNCONFIRM-20090614

MASS-CHANGE: This bug report is registered in the SeaMonkey product, but still has no comment since the inception of the SeaMonkey project 5 years ago. Because of this, we're resolving the bug as EXPIRED. If you still can reproduce the bug on SeaMonkey 2 or otherwise think it's still valid, please REOPEN it and if it is a platform or toolkit issue, move it to the according component. I think porting the Thunderbird Activity Monitor would fix this RFE.
