From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.3) Gecko/20010801 BuildID: 2001080104 Trying to open this page causes mozilla to crash - it also prevents the usual talkback feature from working. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open http://nsmnt2.nsm.iup.edu/honors/welcome.htm 2.crash 3. Redhat 7.1 w/ XFS patch, jdk1.3.1. It may be related to the java applets on the page, but I'm not really sure.
We need a talkback id or stacktrace for this to be useful.

turn off java in preferences -> advanced, and see if it still crashes. If not, -> OJI
This does not crash when java is turned off..
Component: Browser-General → OJI

11 menubuttons on left side are each their own little java applet. Tested this with a current linux CVS build after having surfed other sites that also use java. No crash, but the "buttons" didn't load. Quit mozilla (which took a while) and restarted - went to the site - all loaded quick and again: no crash.
Does not crash with Java disabled for sure on 2001083108. Did not test Java. Reporter, can you still reproduce with latest build?
I don't know if this has been fixed or not in newer releases - I don't generally download the nightly builds. I can still reproduce this in the version I have with java enabled, which is: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.3) Gecko/2001080. I will try again when the next major release is available. If this has been fixed since this version, you can go ahead and close it. Thanks, David
I crash on this page when I click on the menu items on the left. Java spits out the below attached debug data to a file called hs_err_pid343.log. I think this bug is a dupe of bug 93990.
I forgot to add: this crash happens for me with 2001-09-07-21 on Linux.
Still unable to reproduce with 2001091108, linux. This time the menus loaded fairly quick, no problems. WFM.
This is a duplicate of bug 95661 It uses the same applet as www.arkpc.com discussed in that bug. This java class (fphover) generates a long list of nullpointer and security exceptions.
QA Contact: shrir → pmac
This isn't a dupe. At least not yet. 95661 is Win9x related, this is Linux. This works fine on Win32.
Correction, I see the null pointer in the console, but it look slike it was jsut poorly written. Anyone who uses Java apps for a simple Javascript rollover isn't exactly technically adept to start with.
Use win2k and wait till the page loads fully. Then watch the console as you hover over the class. It is indeed very poorly written JAVA, but that should *never* cause Mozilla nor the OS to hang/crash. This bug causes win95/98 to consume 100% and after hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL and waiting 15 seconds you can kill mozilla. And it crashes Redhat 7.1 but it is all related to the same applet. I tried running just the applet on a page to test if it had anything to do with the rest of the page. I tested it using JBulder 5 applet viewer and it causes the same 100% processor usage.
Reassign to Joe as I'm leaving the role of OJI module owner.

Ressign to Joe Chou, as I am no longer working officially on OJI.

Works for me 20011010 (build 092) on Linux Redhat 6.2 I think this is RedHat 7.x specific bug
Just crashed for me on RedHat 6.2, jre1.3.0_01 several times (due to jvm exit)
I think that is not Mozilla bug and this is the java plugin one. I tested it on Linux Redhat 6.2 and Redhat7.1. First I reproduced this bug with JRE1.3.0_01: browser crashed. Then I installed java plugin via browser interface (deleted libjavaplugin_oji.so and went to site contains java applet). Browser installed the JRE1.3.1 (build 1.3.1-b24): after that bug became not reproducible -- browser doesn't crash visiting http://nsmnt2.nsm.iup.edu/honors/welcome.htm. Mozilla build was: MOZILLA_0_9_5_BRANCH. I propose to close this bug as fixed.
crashed with build 2001103113 on Linux (RH 6.2, glibc 2.1.3) + JRE 1.3.0_01. With JRE 1.3.1_01, browser freezes and console shows: Current Java thread: at sun.awt.motif.X11Graphics.disposeImpl(Native Method) at sun.awt.motif.X11Graphics.dispose(X11Graphics.java:251) at This is actually known problem. In fact this is even non-mozilla problem but sun's jre one. Some text labels are longer than applet width and this cause crash (could be reproduced in 1.3.1 appletviewer). WFM with jre 1.4 Let close it as dupe of 57372.
Marking dup of bug 57372 as per Igor's comments. JRE 1.4 beta should fix this; btw, why was this bug Linux-specific and did not affect Win2k for example ? I find it amazing that a long-standing FrontPage-generated page can still crash 1.3.1. :( *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 57372 ***
