Crash Data
Linux build 2001081715.
Mozilla crashes when trying to download anything (e.g. the latest Linux nightly
on mozilla.org).
There should be two talkback reports to go with this, I don't know the numbers,
but one should have the description "clicking on link to download vorbis from
Freshmeat" or similar.

Reporter:
Please run "install-dir/components/talkback.so" and poste the Talkback ID#.
BTW: Have you tried a new profile ?
Hmmm, talkback seems broken...I have three incidents queued, and when I hit send
I am getting 'receive failed'
OK, the talkback ID's are:
TB34278603Q and TB34278060Y
I'm pretty sure the second report was with a fresh profile.
The problem is still there with Linux 2001082208. If anything it is worse
because it still crashes (even with a new profile), but most of the time FTP
does nothing at all. I hope somebody can reproduce this because it is making
mozilla almost unusable for me.

OK, now the behaviour seems to have changed again with Linux 95975. Clicking on
any link to download, mozilla spins for a few seconds, then says "document done".
Shift/click *does* download, without crashing.
I'd like to leave the title as it is for now, because this behaviour is changing
rapidly. It may start crashing again.
Downloading from News still crashes though - I must have at least 20 talkback
reports out there.
OK, build 2001082708 - it is crashing again, both in browser and mail/news.
Changing to blocker, I need to be able to download from Mozilla.
Severity: critical → blocker
Shift click still works. What is the difference between a 'shift click' and a
normal click on downloadable content ?
Summary: Mozilla crashes when trying to download anything → Mozilla crashes when trying to download anything, shift-click works.

Gabriel, what are the details of your setup? I can't see this _anywhere_ on any
recent build - though a while back a blocker for link downloads did happen and
was fixed.. couldn't find bug # for dupe but i'm positive. Marking WFM,
reporter, do a clean rm -rf of the tree and reinstall mozilla. If problem still
occurs, a stack trace would be nice.

I've already given the id's of two talkback incidents. There are a few more out
there that I don't have the ID's of.
I'm using a single AMD K6-3, Enlightenment window manager, my own build of
Linux, currently 2.4.9 kernel (though it was also crashing with 2.4.6). X11
version 4.1.0.
I can confirm that this has been happening with fresh builds / profiles for at
least the last week.
Reopening with severity major, as I can reproduce this with a single click.

Oh, and I am installing all components except chatzilla.
I am also seeing a segfault:
/usr/local/mozilla/run-mozilla.sh: line 72: 484 Segmentation fault $prog
${1+"$@"}

Here's another talkback ID from mozilla 2001090712:
TB35109092K
Please somebody take a look at this, it's driving me nuts !

It happens to me too:
Linux/Debian x86, kernel 2.4.9, XFree 4.1.0
Mozilla build 2001091005
Talkbacks: TB35233322K TB35233197Z
I kept the configuration from Mozilla 0.9.3, but I delete and reinstall the
package files each time I upgrade.

I am also using kernel 2.4.9 and X 4.1.0. I wonder if that is related ?

Duping this one to bug 98355 which has more specific steps.

gabriel@pixle.demon.co.uk, dgborin@yahoo.com -- you're just the people I need!
It's my code that's crashing. I can't find what would cause it to crash. You
have a setup that reproduceably causes it to crash. Perfect.
could you possibly email me (to bzbarsky@mit.edu) the
following files from your computer:
/etc/mailcap
/etc/mime.types
~/.mailcap
~/.mime.types
if you have some other files set as your helper mailcap/mime.types files (grep
for "helper" in prefs.js to see the relevant prefs), mail me those instead, of
course. Please mail the files as attachments, don't just paste them in, even
though they are text. Things like line endings could matter here.
Thanks, and I hope we can get this resolved quickly

Mail from dgborin@yahoo.com:

> If you could retest once I check that in, that would be great.
Just tryied Mozilla build 2001091821: it works!

Just a note for QA when verifying...

gabriel: we did get your talkbacks, but put the update into 98355 :)
Would you grab a new build and try to verify this bug?
Thanks,
benc
