this is a bug that we/contributor should/could fix, since Flatfish doesn't support phone function (no SIM).

When you enable Airplane Mode, the tablet disconnects from any cellular and wireless networks and prevents you from automatically reconnecting to those networks. Bluetooth, Location Services, and GPS will also be disabled. All of those wireless technologies could potentially interfere with the avionics in the cockpit. (Airplane Mode automatically disables Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but most federal regulations allow you to reenable these wireless protocols while airborne. This is useful when connecting to in-air wireless networks, or using Bluetooth devices, such as a Bluetooth keyboard.)

Airplane Mode disables more than cellular radios, but the other radios mentioned in comment 2 as well (wifi, bluetooth, etc).

Other major tablets also include airplane mode to comply with airline regulations.

Some airlines may not let you operate your device unless you can show it's in airplane mode.

These should be enough reasons to keep it. Marking wontfix.

(sidenote/tip: airplane mode is also a good way to conserve battery life when you don't strictly need connectivity)
