This was deemed wont-fix at the time of implementation but I don't remember why. CC'ing Brian.

Search suggestions send every keystroke to the search provider, including URLs. Since Fennec has a combo URL bar + search bar, there's no way to avoid sharing URLs with the search providers. We're in private browsing mode, so we should avoid sharing any user data with anyone that isn't absolutely necessary.

I was thinking the same thing, but was not really sure if I'm correct, so I logged a bug anyway. Thanks for the info!
