I got an error on a valgrind job on try that can only happen if the objdir was not clobbered.
I guess i had the same issue:

the first Valgrind Build failed and then the second one (just retrigered) didn't failed.
BTW my patch had nothing to do with the build error (it was only applying to layout).

2.5 years later, this is still causing problems on try.
Assuming this is fixed now that we're using TC for Valgrind builds.
