The install documentation is quite lacking on MDN and GitHub is mostly OS X specific. This can use a good update.

https://github.com/mozilla/amo-validator/ has some good pointers - for instance, it mentions that you can actually grab spidermonkey binaries from Mozilla FTP...

The app-validator's README does mention how you can install Spidermonkey from Homebrew:

Which sucks for everybody using something else than macs (like, erm, linux). We should merge the current instructions with those from https://github.com/mozilla/amo-validator/#spidermonkey
