Sorry if this is a known issue. 

1. Subscribe to a newsgroup
2. Create a filter to mark messages from a specified sender as read
3. Watch it still appears as 'Unread'

Expected: not to see messages from this person if in View/Messages/Unread mode.
Just wanted to file the same RFE,
mark bug 17483  "implementation of news filters" as "depends on..."

Yep. News filters implementation is not finished yet.
Andrei, how did you manage to turn news-filtering on in the first place?
I probably did not realize that it was for mail only. Is that what you mean?
Then this bug should probably be invalid. Sorry for the noise.
Marking worksforme. As indicated, the bug for implentation of news filters is 17483.

Marking verified (invalid) -- news filters not implemented yet.
Marking verified (worksforme)  - mark read filter action working (tried IMAP) in
current build.

This bug should get fixed along with bug 17483 when someone starts working on it...
