When a user profile is migrated into a new installation of Netscape 6, (from netscape 4.7x for example), the mail news account settings are migrated as well. Therefore it is possible for a user to have a defined email address the first time the product is loaded. The autoadmin.append_emailaddr pref will send the profile user name to the autoconfig server in the event that there is no email address present. The problem is in a case where the email address is imported, the imported email address values will not be used until mail/news is launched, at which point the new value will be immediately used (without exiting the browser).

During the pref migration, the mail default account has not yet created when autoconfig is running. AutoConfig checks for the mail.accountmanager.defaultaccount pref and if it's not present it uses the profile name to append to the config URL. Mail prefs are migrated only when the first time the mail is started. If we really want the migrated email address to be used during autoconfig, we can change the code to also check for 'mail.user.identity' pref (which is a 4.x pref email address pref) but I think we will wait for the feedback from the field.
