Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.9; rv:29.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/29.0 The "Sync Now" option in the Tools menu (and the "Sync" button available in Customize under Australis that I'm guessing is the same thing?) do not do anything. Previously, after sharing a tab from my phone, I could pick this option and it would immediately pull in the tab I had just shared. Now it does nothing, and I have to restart the browser for it to pull in the shared tabs.
I checked the browser console, and nothing is logged when I pick the menu item or click the toolbar button.
I'm afraid I can't reproduce this. CC QA - James/Ed, can we get some help to try and verify this report and ideally a STR? Bug 966515 might also be relevant - it seems that in that bug report tabs didn't sync first time in at least one case (but later someone reported it did). FWIW, I've currently only tested from one desktop profile to another.
I should point out that this is still using the old sync (as far as I know). I haven't set up a Firefox Account yet. The dependency you set seems to imply this has to do with the Firefox Account sync.
If I put the Sync button in my toolbar, it continually has the appearance of spinning, and if I mouse over it, it says 'Last Sync: Thu 08:44". It's now Wednesday at 6pm here, so I'm guessing that means it hasn't successfully synced in almost a week?
(In reply to Dave Miller [:justdave] (justdave@bugzilla.org) from comment #4) > in almost a week? Which is about how long I've been running an Austalis version of Aurora.

It would be great if we can see some logs - see https://quality.mozilla.org/docs/servicesqa/sync/helpful-tips-for-qa-of-sync/ for info on how to get them.

If this started with Aurora/Australis, it might still be Account-related (the new accounts code is riding the current Aurora train). Logs would be quite helpful, Dave.

There are no logs, it hasn't logged anything since I upgraded to Australis. Unless the logs moved. Where do I find them?

Where do I find them? Did you follow the steps in the post from comment 7? They should be in about:sync-logs after you set services.sync.log.appender.file.logOnSuccess.

OK, found them. I have this: 1393787191108 Sync.SyncScheduler DEBUG Global Score threshold hit, triggering sync. 1393787191116 Sync.Service DEBUG User-Agent: Firefox/29.0a2 FxSync/1.31.0.20140225004003. 1393787191116 Sync.Service INFO Starting sync at 2014-03-02 14:06:31 1393787191116 Sync.Service DEBUG Exception: Could not acquire lock. Label: "service.js: sync". No traceback available 1393787191116 Sync.Service INFO Cannot start sync: already syncing? Over and over again for almost the entire log.

Attached file sync log
Here's the first part of the sync log, including the first successful sync after a restart, which is the first and last time sync succeeds without restarting the app again. After that, the part I mentioned in the previous comment just repeats over and over again ad infinitum. It's like it's not releasing the lock after it finishes the first time, by the look of it.
Priority: -- → P1
Summary: The "Sync Now" option in the Tools menu no longer works → Sync is broken due to "Could not acquire lock" error
Priority: P1 → P2
I can't reproduce this. I created a new profile, setup sync using Fx 27, then using Fx 29 forced a "Sync Now" a number of times - each one completed without error. Dave, any chance you have the pref browser.formfill.enable set to false? The logs imply we *might* be hanging in form data, which could happen with that pref set to false - which is bug 932759 and should have made it to Aurora a day or so ago.
Flags: needinfo?(justdave)
Confirmed, I did indeed have that preference set that way, and today's Aurora update did fix this for me. My Sync is working again (without changing any prefs).
