After the 2014-02-14 import of Sumomo articles into Sumo, a few articles appear to have been imported but not linked to their corresponding en-US versions. This bug naming them was filed as requested by Roland. These are the ones affected: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/contributor%20home%20page-tb https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ask-tb https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/deleting-diginotar-ca-cert-tb https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/answering-support-questions-tb https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/superheroes-wanted-tb Some of them may no longer be needed, but still.
Ton, I don't quite understand what you mean with "imported but not linked to their corresponding en-US versions". I went to the articles you listed and clicked on the "show translations" link. I was able to see the dutch translation there and it seemed to work. Can you explain what exactly is broken?
Kadir, what you see might look ok, but local versions of those articles above were actually imported but not linked to the en-US versions, making them stand-alone versions that can be found by using their Sumomo slugs. The reason you see some of them now is either because of redirects created (for our locale) or people creating them as new, while it isn’t necessary if this bug is fixed. I wrote some notes about this to post to the contributors group during the past few days that probably should have been posted earlier in order to save a few people some workload (sorry…). I’ll do so now and cc you. Too bad Sumomo is down right now (not sure if it will be back), so I can’t point to the original Sumomo articles and slugs. Nevertheless, our locale works because of redirects pointing to the originals, and a nice example of an original and a newly created article is probably the Profiles article for Spanish: Imported article: https://support.mozilla.org/es/kb/perfiles-tb (note the Translate… link on the page) Newly created article: https://support.mozilla.org/es/kb/perfiles-de-thunderbird
Kadir, another example: https://support.mozilla.org/de/kb/benutzerprofile-tb is one of the Tb articles that isn't yet approved from the localizer team, it's only imported from old SUMOMO. The other Tb articles that were imported but not yet approved have an "out of date" warning at the top -- "benutzerprofile-tb" don't have this warning because it's not linked as translation of https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb
All of the above articles are obsolete except: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb Michael Cooper aka mythmon: can you "re-link" the localizations (e.g. https://support.mozilla.org/de/kb/benutzerprofile-tb is the german translations) to this one article, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb ? I guess they got "unlinked" because of the "-tb" slug that was added?

Roland, I was able to fix this in the admin by setting the parents of the document to the English document. This is pretty easy, so if you have any more you need linked, let me know. I'm not entirely sure how this happened though. I tried to be careful when renaming these articles to avoid something like this. Oh well.

Mike: thanks - I was afraid this would become an issue though in case some locale have set up new versions already (less vital), or a redirect in our case (nl), and it has. I.o.w. I have a feeling you left those locales as they are, right? Could you fix this for nl (as deleting the redirect will likely cause a lost translation)? I hereby ‘grant you access’ to entirely remove the existing redirect when doing so. :)
(In reply to comment #6) Mike? Or, would you rather see I recreated the Profiles article myself to fix this? (Though I’d rather see a nice import log entry for it ;) )

Ton: Sorry! I thought Roland was going to do this. I'm not sure what you mean by "Though I'd rather see a nice import log entry for it". The things I could do won't have any more logging than if you did it. I think it might be better if you or Roland does it, since you are more familiar with the articles. If you aren't comfortable with that though, I can do it. We should assign this bug to whichever of us is going to do it though, so things are clear :)

Hi Mike, thanks for your reply. What I meant by the nice log entry, is as follows. When viewing https://support.mozilla.org/nl/kb/profielen-tb/history , you see that the nl Profiles article has been properly imported and shows the log as it should, i.e. showing the sumomo import action. As I had to create https://support.mozilla.org/nl/kb/profielen-tb-red?redirect=no in order to get this article linked to the en-US one, updates won’t follow as they should, so I’d need to update both the article and the redirect every time. In short, I’d like to delete the redirect and presume all you have to do is just set the parent for the nl version (as you wrote in comment 5) in order to get this fixed, hence maintaining the log entries for the original article as they are. If I remove the redirect, remove the existing nl version and recreate it as a new l10n for the en-US version, the original log has gone. Please let me know if setting the parent is enough or if I have to recreate it anyway. As I wrote earlier, if you need to remove the existing redirect (which would appear to be the first action I guess, or you can leave it so I can remove it afterwards), your’e free to do so. Regarding the bug status: I guess if all articles for all locales are OK regarding their links to en-US versions and other articles mentioned in comment 0 are no longer relevant, this bug probably can be closed after fixing this.

While it is technically possible to update the articles "in place" by changing parent and revision relationships, this kind of editing the database isn't something I'm comfortable doing, nor do I normally have access to do it. In this case, I don't really have any more powers that anyone else. I think that the wisest thing to do is to delete the article and the redirect and recreate the article in the intended place. If the log is important, I would note it in another document or recreate it. I don't think it is wise to attempt to change this in the database in place. I'm not familiar with the locale culture, I'm not familiar with the articles, and I'm not familiar with the language. I do not think it is appropriate for me to be editing these documents.

I think it’s safe enough to close this. Most articles are obsolete anyway (hence maybe not linked for that reason in teh first place) and the Profiles TB article for nl was recreated. There is a redirect for the German version though, but that's probably because of renaming it.
