Open http://archives.newyorker.com/#folio=0C1. Rhe image of a cover appears, and a login overlay covers its center. If you close the overlay, the login button will open it again. This works correctly on Firefox 27 and Chrome. On Firefox 29, nothing happens either initially or when pressing the button. You just see the cover image and controls. Verified to fail in safe mode.

I thought I had but ... The situation is - Empty profile works correctly! Current profile with all addons disabled and with prefs.js replaced with an empty still fails! All plugins are set to ask and non appear to be involved. I do NOT have a userchrome.css - and of course I've disabled stylish. What else can I look for?

Found it! It was a bad newyorker cookie of all things. Sorry for the noise and thanks for the kick in the butt.
