When a test fails, it would be nice if it included the line number within the test of the failed assertion

Details

Some tests reuse the same assertion throughout the test. It would be nice if when a test failed it included the current line number of the assertion so that it is easier to find the failure within the test. Currently, one has to either add some arbitrary marker to each assertion text or read very closely at the logs to see where the failure was.
Marking this as a duplicate of bug 1101039 since a POC patch is attached there.
