I just crashed in the same way by using Firefox 31.0a1 (2014-03-21) on linux. I was trying to load a domain and its subdomain that didn't seem to be available at that moment. This crash did not trigger crash reporter.

This seems to have some recent dupes: bug #990346, bug #990613, and bug #990615, on various platforms including my x86-64 Ubuntu 14.04.  It usually takes a few hours of browsing for the crash to happen, although it happens immediately when hit the restart button after a crash.  It does trigger the crash reporter but I haven't submitted a crash report yet.

In my case the crashes were apparently due to a memory overflow that I introduced
into the private copy of the code I was working on (nsPNGDecoder.cpp).  When I
fixed the bug, the crashes stopped.
