Note that in Pootle, these strings are found here: http://mozilla.locamotion.org/mai/firefox/translate/browser/installer/nsisstrings.properties.po

We've added new strings for Win64, so unless there are further changes to the stub installer, we're stable for strings.
This is not something we'd solve in the installer itself. We marked this as a P1 because -- especially after several years -- we should have our strings resolved, but it's probably not ours to set the importance of.

Those strings are available to the l10n community. Let's see how quickly they'll jump.

These have not moved in a year, and I don't have a clear way of localizing Maithili for this (looks like our coverage in that language is sparse across the board).
Is this something we should chase down and just get done (somehow), or something we just ignore and the bug rides in limbo in perpetuity?

If a machine translation engine for Maithili existed, we could use that as a stop gap until the community resurfaces. Alas, not even Google has figured out MT for Maithili.
Flod (L10n PM for Firefox), what would you like to do? Is this the bug that finally kills Maithili Firefox?

Maithili is inactive. We've tried to find new volunteers to work on it, but we have failed.

If we keep shipping Maithili, IMO it has to stay open. The moment we drop it from builds, I'm going to close their bugs, since the translation would need a review from scratch.

Likely yes. Not much for this bug in particular, but for the fact that nobody seems interested in taking over.

We drop mai from Firefox desktop in bug 1535299, thus resolving WONTFIX.
