Details

(Whiteboard: search bar, search engines deleted, )

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:30.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/30.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140405004002

Steps to reproduce:

Firefox Aurora (by default) is set to atuo-update (update downloaded silently in the background, installed upon next browser launch). When the update takes place, custom entries added to the search bar (manually using 'Add to Search Bar' add on) are removed, with the exception of 3: https://www.google.co.uk , https://www.amazon.co.uk , and http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Minecraft_Wiki .

Current instalation: standard x86 Windows 7 build, running on Windows 7 Ulimate (x64).

Actual results:

The removed entries are from https://en.wikipedia.org , https://en.wiktionary.org and https://www.youtube.com . The bug has affected numerous updates in v.30.x branch.

Expected results:

Custom entries added to the search bar should be preserved across updates.

As an attempted fix: removed and re-installed 'Add to Search Bar' addon, also used 'Restore Defaults' button on the 'Manage Search Engines' submenu. I'll now re-add custom search engines I use, and comment back if it doesn't fix the issue.
Have just installed a new update (30.0a2 (2014-04-06)). I can now confirm that 'Restore defaults' has not led to my search engines being preserved. I initially removed all the default search engines, then re-added some of my own. What now happens is after an update, Firefox starts with *no* search engines included (also, it doesn't load my homepage, instead starts a blank 'new tab' UI. Not sure if this is related or not).

I'd appreciate if anyone could look into this, since really fixing bugs and/or tracking down what's wrong is beyond my ken.

I guess you've probably resolved this problem somehow already. In the future, if you have a similar problem, it would be useful to try on a new profile without any add-on installed.

The 'Firefox starts with *no* search engines' issue you describe in comment 2 can no longer happen since bug 438599 was fixed.
