Sometimes after tabs are closed there are leftovers from the old tab and/or newtab button visible in the tabs bar (see screenshot). I have only seen this on systems using Intel graphics. Nvidia (binary driver) does not seem to be affected.

Florin, please have someone on your team try to reproduce this. We need to know which Firefox versions are affected, if it only applies to specific hardware/driver combinations, and how easy it is to reproduce.

I can give some more information: - I have seen this at least in Aurora 29 and now see it in current Aurora 30 as well as Nightly 31. I did never see this in pre-Australis versions of Firefox. - I did not notice this on my NVidia-based system. The Intel-based system is Ivy Bridge and using the following driver: xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.21.15-5.fc20.x86_64 - I just reproduced this on both current Aurora and Nightly. I had to open/close tabs for about 2 minutes in both cases.

We couldn't reproduce the issue on both latest Nightly 31 and Aurora 30 using several machines: 2 machines having Ubuntu 64-bit with Intel HD 2500, Ubuntu 64-bit and 32-bit with nVIDIA GeForce GT 610, Ubuntu 61-bit with AMD Radeon HD 3000. Michael, are you using a certain theme? Is it reproducible with a clean profile? Thanks
Michael, which Linux distribution are you using?

After looking into this again it looks like I was using layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled on that machine which seems to have caused the problem.

(In reply to Michael Monreal [:monreal] from comment #5) > After looking into this again it looks like I was using > layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled on that machine which seems to have > caused the problem. So this is an OMTC bug then? We could still use information necessary to reproduce this so we can try to fix it. Otherwise more users will hit this when we want to turn that feature on by default.

(In reply to Anthony Hughes, QA Mentor (:ashughes) from comment #6) > So this is an OMTC bug then? I think it is. But I turned it back on to see if I run into it again. As for your previous question: I am using Fedora 20 on x86-64 (xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.21.15-5.fc20.x86_64, kernel-3.13.10-200.fc20.x86_64)
Thanks Michael. Petruta, can you please set up a machine with an Intel GPU with the same environment as indicated by Michael in comment 7? Let us know if this reproduces.
While IT is trying to set up the environment I worked on reproducing the issue having the pref layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled set to true, on: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0, buildID: 20140506004000 environment: ubuntu 13.04 64-bit Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz × 4 Graphics: Intel® Ivybridge Desktop I couldn't reproduce it on this environment.
IT managed to install the exact Fedora version as described in comment 7. kernel-3.13.10-200.fc20.x86_64 GNU/Linux xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.21.15-5.fc20.x86_64 Unfortunately there is no leftover UI in the tab bar, tab animations is running correctly. I've tested using latest Aurora 31.0a2 and latest Nightly 32.0a1 having the pref enabled.
Michael, is there anymore details you can give us. It seems like this is unreproducible on our end after considerable effort.
I turned on the setting myself on 2014-05-02 and have not seen the problem since. Maybe this was fixed between v30 and v31... or something else triggered it. Anyway, I can no longer reproduce this myself.
Thanks for following up, Michael. Since you can no longer reproduce and you reported this bug I'm going to mark this RESOLVED WORKSFORME. If you find you are able to reproduce this again please reopen this bug.
