Hey Sean. As discussed outside of the bug, this is an update to the latest version of this packaging, but applying more visual polish than the all-white version that was quickly put together for the initial run. Here is a direct quote from Pete about what can and can't be used: "The packaging cannot include the Firefox globe icon, the blue and white Fox illustration, the all caps typeface, or the brand sentences (Be The Future / Blaze Your Own Path). It can use the Firefox OS word mark, the product name Flame, an image of the device (even a comp), and the T2M logo on the device and the packaging." I'll be around if you have questions or want to bounce ideas off me as you're getting started.

Asa, Per John Slater's request: Sean is ready to start on the Flame packaging, and would like to use an image of the device in the artwork. To clarify the ask, a high-resolution, straight-ahead view of the new phone would be best. I've seen a 3/4 version floating around (not sure if it's current or not), but we'd need the straight-ahead view to do it right. Do we have this? If so, please share in John's email thread or upload to bug (and if possible, also add the tracker Gdoc at: https://docs.google.com/a/mozilla.com/document/d/1gqxS5wreMBMhxO0NVpptr-DwsfrCl61-WoNgI1XDNc0/edit). If not, what's the plan for getting it, and can we wait on the packaging design until we have it?

Thanks Sakina. Asa or Diane, any luck finding that Flame device image? If we don't have current access to it we'll need to decide if it's possible to get it soon or not...if not we'll move to a plan B for the packaging design. Would like to get a clear answer before we make that call though. Thanks!

I am adding Frankie Yan to this -- Asa says he is the point person to get us the image.

The photos used on http://www.everbuying.com/product549652.html may work if we can get them without the watermark.
Hi Frankie, Can you please provide the link to the images?

These new images work great - thanks Frankie and Sakina. Sakina, what's our new deadline for this? Obviously 4/30 is going to be tough, but we do want to knock it out reasonably soon.
I'm not aware of a specific deadline per se, we are just trying to wrap this up as soon as we realistically can. Asa, Diane - do either of you want to comment?

We're flexible here. The phones are not likely to leave the assembly line for shipping until the last week of June so sometime between now and then we'll want to put the retail site up. I think waiting until the last week of May would be fine.

Thanks for the photos folks. We now have a fully vector version of the phone we can use in print/web materials! \o/ http://cl.ly/image/380j1v0H1h2U
LOVELY!!

No rush, just something I'd like to have to play with.
Hey guys - we just passed the original deadline, so can I please have a status report and an updated deadline for creative project tracking purposes? Thanks! Lizz
Lizz- See above - the image has been provided. Unless I'm missing something? ;) d
The above isn't the final packaging. That's a mockup of the vector phone. There was flexibility with the deadline as mentioned in the comments, but I have the packaging mockup finalized so I will post here today for approvals + confirming content.
Here is a mockup of what I have for the packaging atm - http://cl.ly/image/0e35391B3E2I I can't finalize this until I know if T2Mobile has a version of their logo + wordmark that works on a dark background. If it doesn't I'll have to go with white, which I think would be sad as it'd be nice for the packaging to reflect the style of the phone if we could. If someone could check in on variants of their branding, that'd be great.
I just noticed that on the plain white boxes from the first order that the Firefox OS label gets covered by the blank closing flap. If we want that to show and not be hidden by the closed box, we'll need to move the Firefox OS wordmark over the the side with the flap (the right panel, not the left one).
That was intentional as requested. We can look into changing it, though.
Where are we with this? Is this packaging complete?
Thanks Sean. The design in comment #17 looks like a great start. That said, we can't call this complete until Pete & Mary Ellen, and then also T2Mobile, have signed off on it. Sean, can you prep one of those little videos that shows how this works when properly folded? That seemed to work great the first time you did it as far as showing off the full piece. Also, let's not assume we're going to get any different files from T2Mobile. We should proceed with whatever we have now. Lastly, it seems like *something* should be on the phone screen. Sakina & Asa, is it appropriate to use the standard FxOS app screen here? Sean, once you've made the design tweaks noted above and created the little video, let me know and we can strategize on the best way to share it.
John, re: using the FxOS phone screen - that's a great question. The potential risk I see is that it may make this seem like a Firefox phone, which we are explicitly trying to avoid. Asa, can you provide direction on this?

We could put a default homescreen, but that's always taking a snapshot in time, esp with 2.0 on the horizon. If we're not getting a new logo, I'll have to look at another design that doesn't rely on the dark colors of the phone itself. Sad, but I'll go back to white for the box if time is tight.
(In reply to Sean Martell from comment #17) > Here is a mockup of what I have for the packaging atm - > http://cl.ly/image/0e35391B3E2I Hi Sean, this is just confirmation: When we (Mozilla Japan) talked with Thundersoft Japan (Imai-san) he confirmed that first 2K Flame includes Carger/Headset but final 5K+1K device will not. So the list of items included the box should be changed like from: Charger / Battery / Micro-USB Cable / Headset / Quick Guide to: Battery / Micro-USB Cable / Quick Guide

I didn't realize that we weren't supplying the charger and headset. Also, we are not going to have a Quick Guide in the box. Instead we will have a sticker.

(In reply to Asa Dotzler [:asa] from comment #25) > That's a shame. I didn't realize that we weren't supplying the charger and > headset. Please confirm with Thundersoft about final item list before you finalize the box design. Impact of this: charger: adapter type depends on countries and micro-usb cable is enough for developers. ex. http://www.bombayelectronics.com/Worldwide_Adapter_Plugs_s/68.htm headset: we cannot use FM Radio app without headset. note: Mozilla Japan is OK about this (better to include these items, price should be kept). We just want to provide same set of items for Japanese 1k users ad Global 5k users. > Also, we are not going to have a Quick Guide in the box. Instead we will > have a sticker. note: bug 996140 for sticker design
I'll hold on supplying the final EPS until we can get a final confirm on the item list, as mentioned above.
