Details

So for people who use folder for saving different bookmarks, it kinda makes sense to store multiple things into the same folder (temporal locality maybe :P ) hence saving the next bookmark into the folder used for saving the last one, by default, makes sense, atleast for me.
Noooo, I dislike this behavior. Because there is not much frequency(less 1 bookmark/month) to perform bookmark, I do not remember the folder which I stored at last time.
What happens for me is that I'm browsing on a particular topic, say a project and I find a lot of useful links, then I start bookmarking all of them in a particular folder. I don't know how to make a good decision about subjective topics like this, do we probably use real user data about how they use bookmarks or do we just get people interested in this to comment on this. Or we could have this as a flag.
why don't you just open all related pages in tabs and then Bookmark All Tabs in a folder?
I could do that, but then it just feels like a workaround. I normally just keep only one window open with all the tabs for the different things I'm working/reading. Keeping the related tabs in a separate window and then closing the ones I don't want until I have the right set and then doing Bookmark All Tabs just makes it a bit more difficult. I bookmark things one page at a time. I'm just saying we could either find out if this makes sense for other people too or does this UX work for most of the people and only a few folks like me are at odds with it.
It is a workaround indeed, cause the most common case we expect is indeed what comment 1 pointed out: most users have a handful of bookmarks and so it's very unlikely for them to remember where the last bookmark was saved, plus we move towards a starring-world where the position of the bookmark matters less (I can't tell you where we are headed exactly cause the design is far from complete atm). An add-on could implement this functionality clearly, and satisfy users in search of such a behavior.
Duping forward to bug 1432604, as that's where the current discussion is.
