Details

When the caret is in the first column, pressing up or down won't update the line number in the status bar. When it's at any other column the line number update properly.

Seems like it might be related, but this bug doesn't have an empty line contingency. Any line will do as long as the caret is in col 1.

Bug 724167 must be seeing the exact same thing, now that I think about it. In an empty line the caret *must* go to col 1, and *that's* why the status bar doesn't update. 

This bug just happens to state the full story under which the bug reproduces.
